What is "Medicated Sekkisei"?
"Medicated Sekkisei" is approved by Japan Ministry of Health. In Asia, Kose Sekkisei Series has "Medicated" wording on the package. Due to the popularity of Medicated Sekkisei among our customers, we offer mainly Medicated version but you will still find "Non-Medicated" Kose in our store. The "Non-Medicated" version includes Sekkisei Cleansing Powder, Seikisho products and Kose samples which are in original package and available in Asia and North America.

Kose Medicated Sekkisei Whitening Lotion (360ml)
The box is damaged in transit but the product is in good shape. It's never been opened and the expiry date of the product is Oct, 2015.

This product contains Lipid-based ingredients, such as Wheat Germ Oil and Vitamin E Acetate, to provide fresh moisture and hydration, while improving dryness and complexion of dry skin areas. With oriental plant extracts, this product prevents aging spots, regulates excessive sebum and improve the firmness of the skin.

For all skin type (except ultra sensitive skin)

How to use?
After cleansing, saturate cotton pad with the lotion and massage it in patting motion to enhance penetration. Can be applied on eye areas.

Kat Reviews
This product is one of the best selling whitening lotion in Asia. It can be used as eye and face mask: simply saturate cotton pad or paper mask and leave it on the skin for 5 minutes to relieve dryness and redness caused by sun exposure.

I use Kose Medicated Sekkisei Whitening Lotion and Emulsion to even out my skin tone and I do see the differences after several applications: my skin is radiant and dewy. However, this product cannot light up your natural skin tone and it takes time to see the effectiveness compared with products that contain Hydroquinone.

Despite of this drawback, the lotion does contain several oriental plants to eliminate skin irritation, provide hydration and brighten dull and tired skin.

Dose Medicated sekkisei or Lotion Excellent contain hydroquinone? Are these products safe fro pregnant women? Thanks, Joanne

Dear Joanne,

Both lotions do not have hydroquinone but they do have alcohol. The Medicated Sekkisei Lotion is designed for all skin types but Lotion Excellent is for dry and mature skin.

If your skin condition is changed due to pregnancy, it is better to ask professional advice as your skin might become more sensitive.

What is the difference between Sekkisei medicated lotion and Sekkisei lotion? No whitening but just medicated. Thanks

Dear Rosalind,

Medicated version is only available in Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan. I was told that there was no difference in between "Medicated" and "Non Medicated" versions but some customers prefer using Medicated so we only stock Medicated version which is manufactured in Japan by Kose.

Does this work on other parts of the body too?? I'm trying to find something for my hand, i noticed that the back of my hands are getting darker due to constant exposure to sun when driving and frequent washing of the hand

Dear Maria,

Yes. It does. It is better to use this lotion with cotton pad after washing to remove dead skin cells for brightening result. At the same time, a good sunscreen, such as Kose Medicated Sekkisei Essence Milk and Shiseido Anessa Perfect Essence Sunscreen, should be applied in daytime to prevent pigmentation and aging caused by excessive sun exposure.

What's the difference between medicated kose and non medicated kose sekkisei?

Dear Nyree,

Medicated Sekkisei is available in various Asia markets including Japan, while non medicated version is offered in US and China. As far as I know, the ingredients are not much different but Kose offers two versions anyway to cater custom requirements of different countries.

Having said that, our customers prefer Medicated so we only stock in this version unless only non medicated is available.

My skin type is combination. My face is yellowish and dull. I have large pores and black heads, some acne scars and brown spots on my cheek. What products should I use?
Dear Li,

I would like to recommend Kose Medicated Sekkisei, Sofina and Tony Moly for your consideration. Here are my suggestions:

1) Kose Sekkisei Powder Wash
This cleanser is in powder form which helps to remove dead skin cells and brighten your skin instantly.

2) Kose Medicated Sekkisei Lotion (toner)
This toner helps to brighten, improve dull and uneven skin tone. It also helps to remove acne scar that caused by accumulation of dead skin cells.

3) Day: Sofina Beaute Whitening Day Protector SPF50+ PA+++ (Fresh - 32ml)
This product is a 2-in-1 day moisturizer which gives you sun protection and hydration. Use it right after cleansing and toning.

4) Night: Sofina Beaute Whitening Emulsion (120ml)(I - Nighttime Moisturizer) (oily & combination skin)
This nighttime moisturizer helps to protect and brighten your skin. It also prevents dark spots caused by sun exposure.

Special Care: Tony Moly Egg Pore Tightening Pack (for large pores problem):

Tony Moly Egg Pore Blackead Out Oil Gel (for blackhead):

I do like Kose Medicated Sekkisei Lotion but I am not sure if Kose Medicated Sekkisei Emulsion is suitable for you as the product moisturizes and re-hydrates dry skin. Therefore, I recommend Sofina sunscreen and nighttime moisturizer instead as these products are in lightweight texture which are easy to be absorbed.

Tony Moly egg series is easy to use, less expensive and the packaging is cute so it is quite popular among our customers.

I'm 22 and I suffer from occasional monthly acne and I'm already using a product for that, and now I have marks from the acne and my skin is looking dull but feels oily and dry in some areas. What products would you recommend that get rid of the post acne marks, makes my skin less oily and moisturized, and gives my skin an overall moisturized, bright complexion?

I would like to suggest Kose Medicated Sekkisei Lotion which is used as toner day and night. This product helps to brighten your skin complexion and improves acne mark.

Another product that I like is SK-II Facial Treatment Essence which is used after cleansing, toning but before moisturizing. It helps to encourage skin cells turnover for smooth and soft skin texture. It improves large pores and sebum production too.

If you want to choose a whitening skin care series that is less expensive and target your skin concern. I will suggest Sofina Beaute to complement the above products. Here are my suggestions:

1) Sofina Beaute Massage Foam Cleanser (170g) (for all skin)

2) Kose Medicated Sekkisei Whitening Lotion (200ml)

3) SK-II Facial Treatment Essence (150ml)

4) Sofina Beaute Day Protector SPF50 PA+++ (Fresh) (oily skin) (32g)

5)   Sofina Beaute Whitening Emulsion (120ml) (I - Nighttime Moisturizer) (oily & acne prone skin) (nighttime only)

Skin Concern:

Question: I am looking through your site under the whitening section. Is there any product you can recommend that is effective in lightening African skin tones? I know that many of the brands are Asian and maybe formulated for Asian consumers. However if there is anything that you have had feedback on it working on darker skin tones, please let me know.

Answer: The whitening products can help to brighten and even out dull skin tone but they may not able to lighten natural dark skin. A special bleaching agent, Hydroquinone, is needed for lighten skin but it cannot be used in a long run.

That being said, if you want to even out skin tone or improve scar caused by acne, you can try SK-II Whitening Series. We have samples for purchase so you may want to try them first before getting an actual size product.

Apart from SK-II, Kose Medicated Sekkisei and Sekkisei Supreme are popular too. Sekkisei Lotion (Toner) contains alcohol but it also combines different herbal extracts so it is gentle enough for all skin types.

Here are product details for above products:
