What is Shiseido Melanoreduce EX Whitening Serum?
Shiseido Melanoreduce EX Whitening Serum is manufactured by Shiseido, Japan and its' formulation is as same as an awarded whitening product - Shiseido HAKU EX Whitening Essence.

In order to abide the regulation of health department in Taiwan, the name of Shiseido HAKU EX Whitening Essence has been changed to Shiseido Melanoreduce EX Whitening Serum for Taiwan market. You can also see English ingredient list and Chinese product description on the packing. Just like Shiseido HAKU EX Essence, this product helps you to improve uneven skin tone, freckles and dark spots caused by aging process and sun exposure.

Shiseido Melanoreduce EX Whitening Serum (45g)
Shiseido Melanoreduce EX combines new whitening ingredients 4MSK and m-Tranexamic Acid* for ultimate whitening results. These ingredients help to prevent the formulation of melanin that causes pigmentation problem, and control the size of discoloration area that may enlarge over the time due to the aging process.

Shiseido Melanoreduce EX is able to prevent and lighten pigmentation, as well as to minimize dark spot area caused by sun exposure. It also helps to restore damaged skin caused by UVA/UVB, pollution or other environmental factors. This anti-inflammatory function is critical in the process of whitening as the skin becomes healthier, more transparent and in even complexion; thus, the whitening result is able to last longer.

*Shiseido discovered the whitening effectiveness of m-Tranexamic Acid in oral foam 10 years ago. Since then, Shiseido applied a patent for use of m-Tranexamic Acid in skin care product. After several years of study, Shiseido launched HAKU Whitening Essence which contains m-Tranexamic Acid in 2005. This acid helps to reduce and suppress the production of melanin that may cause dark spots and other pigmentation problems.

Question: May I know the difference between these two products?

- Shiseido HAKU Melanofocus EX Whitening Essence (45g) (09 version)
- Shiseido Melanoreduce EX Whitening Serum (45g) (09 version)

And there is another type called Shiseido Haku 2. What is the difference?

Answer: Shiseido HAKU Melanofocus EX Whitening Essence (45g) is distributed in Japan while Shiseido Melanoreduce EX Whitening Serum (45g) is distributed in Taiwan. They are both made by Shiseido, Japan and manufactured in 2009. The ingredients of these products are no difference except for the product names and retail prices. On the packing of Shiseido HAKU Melanofocus EX Whitening Essence (45g), you can only see Japanese ingredient list. For Shiseido Melanoreduce EX Whitening Serum (45g), you can see Chinese product description and English ingredient list. Shiseido HAKU2 was manufactured in 2007/2008 and we only carry the above products as HAKU2 was discontinued last year.

Question: I have a question about which whitening product(s) work for age spots and freckles. The reason I want to know is I'm using SK-II products right now and the age spots and freckles are not really fading and I noticed it was lighter color and than it was more noticeable when I look into the mirror. any suggestion? I was think about Shiseido Exlixir products. what do you think?

Answer: I would like to clarify your concern at first. Do you mean after using SK-II, you don't actually see the improvement but the dark spots are more prominent? And what is your skin type? Do you use sunscreen? Shiseido Elixir is a good choice and this series is so popular in Japan and Taiwan. Having said that, you may want to take a look at Shiseido Melanoreduce EX Whitening Serum (45g) (09 version) as well. This whitening serum combines exclusive ingredients 4MSK and m-Tranexamic Acid to improve and prevent hyperpigmentation that caused by sun exposure

Question: I have oily T zone and I use sunscreen when I go out during the daytime especially I use at least 55 spf and higher. I 've been using SK-II for 3 years and the first time I used it was working fine. Then as I noticed I saw some dark spots on my face and it was noticeable when I look into the mirror . It wasn't big, but it looked like a mark from a pen.

Answer: It seems that the pigmentation is caused by hormones so it will take longer to improve the problem.
I will still suggest Shiseido Elixir Whitening Series (II - for combination skin) and Shiseido Melanoreduce EX Whitening Serum (45g) for your consideration. Those products are able to help you to even out skin tone and prevent pigmentation. If you want to target on affected area, you may want to try Sofina Whitening Memory White Stick (3.7g).

Here is suggested product list:
1) Shiseido Elixir Superieur Cleansing Foam II (145g)
